DISCOVER THE ENCHANTING OASIS OF ARABIA IN OMAN

Nestled in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, Oman is a land of enchanting desert landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. Whether you’re exploring the ancient forts and souks of Muscat, marveling at the stunning mountain scenery of the Al Hajar range, or unwinding on the pristine beaches of Salalah, Oman is a destination that will capture your heart.

Going to oman was one of our best expieriences ever

We were quite worried when we landed in Oman, early 2022 in the middle of the third lockdown. But with paperwork in order we sat in a cap with 15 minutes of landing in the airport. It was the beginning of a two week adventure i will never forget. From beaches to mountain tops to the great mosques of the sultan.

The list

What we did, where we stayed, and how we got around

Hotels:

Going to Wahibi Desert we decided to go all-in, booking Thousand Nights Camp. We saw a lot of different travelers reviewing this place as a great place to stay the night. And it did live up to everything we have hoped.

For our stay in Sur we lived at Sur Plaza Hotel which is a “normal” conference hotel that got everything you need, if you just need a place to have a great night of sleep. We proberly would pick some kind of resort ish around Sur, if we ever went back.

Going into the mountains to live as the Omanians did back in the day was a wild expirience. Remember when you drive into the mountains to drive a 4×4 and be a great driver, it’s really not an easy task. We stayed at Al Misfah Guesthouse which is a lovely traditional little hotel. You are living in small closed rooms that is traditional rooms rebuild. For Magnus who is 190 cm it was quite a challenge. Furthermore you can’t buy food there, so bring you own food. We were lucky to run into a french family who had been traveling to Oman the past 20 years and knew of the hotel owners – So we got invited to eat dinner with them. It was luck of the draw and we were happy for getting a full stomach and another experience in the book.

Our first stay was at Riyam Hotel which is 5 minute walk from the coastline in Muscat. It was near the castle, the souq and the old town. It was a lovely hotel with a great breakfeast, lovely rooms and a nice pool. Being in Muscat we would only recommend having one full day there to go around and look, go to the souq and the castle – but it is really not a city with a lot of life and culture. Atleast we didnt find it. We had rented a car so on day two we went out to visit the great sultan musque which was extraordinary, but after that we would have loved to drive out and expirience Oman. We did tho have another night in Muscat – Not the worst, but would rather have had another day in Nizwa or Sur.

Coming to Nizwa we had chosen a city center hotel named Antique Inn and it did not disappoint at all! The most wonderfull staff, traditional build hotel rooms and a great breakfeast and the best pool. It was placed in the city center so we had the opportunity to go out and explore on foot. Nizwa is the old capitol of Oman and is full of history. Visiting the fort, the goat market, the souq or just wandering around in the small streets was like visiting a fairytale from the 1001 tales.
